A little about me. . .
Hi, I'm John. Thank you for being here.
t is a privilege to accompany people on their spiritual journey as they seek a deeper awareness of God's presence in their lives. My calling as a spiritual director is to prayerfully listen to each person's unique and sacred story, creating a space where they can notice God's gentle invitations and discover a deeper connection with the Divine.
Over the past forty years, I have had the joy of walking alongside people through seasons of growth, struggle, healing, and transformation. As an ordained Episcopal priest, former licensed professional counselor, substance abuse counselor, retreat leader, and spiritual director, I have learned that God faithfully meets us wherever we are. My role is not to provide answers, but to listen deeply with you for the movement of the Holy Spirit, who is the true guide on every spiritual journey.
I offer spiritual direction, retreats, spiritual growth groups, and spiritual care for clergy and ministry leaders. I received my certification in Spiritual Direction through the Metagem Institute and am a member of Spiritual Directors International. In my ongoing commitment to this vocation, I am also enrolled in the Spiritual Guidance Program at the Shalem Institute.
I grew up along the coast of South Carolina, and
my wife, Mary, and I now make our home in
Morehead City, North Carolina. Salt water has
always been part of who I am. There is something
about the rhythm of the ocean, the changing
tides, and the quiet beauty of the coast that helps
me become more attentive to God's presence.
Perhaps you have places where your own soul
feels more grounded and open to the sacred.

The Contemplative Way
At the heart of my ministry is a contemplative
way of being. Contemplation is simply learning
to notice the holy in the present moment. God is
always present, always inviting us into deeper
relationship. A contemplative life is one of paying
attention—pausing throughout the day to
become aware of the Divine who is already here.
In spiritual direction, we practice this way of
noticing together. We listen prayerfully to your
life, your questions, your joys, and your longings,
trusting that the Holy Spirit is already at work.

The Holy Spirit is the true Director; my role is to companion you as together we discern God's presence and invitations. It is a journey of listening, trust, and growing into the person God is lovingly creating you to be.
An Invitation to You
Whether you are longing for a deeper prayer life, navigating a season of transition, discerning God's direction, or simply seeking a quiet place to listen for the Spirit, I would be honored to walk alongside you.
